Judge sets limit on Mets’ liability in Madoff scandal
NEW YORK — A judge says $386 million is the most the owners of the New York Mets could be forced to pay to resolve claims by a trustee collecting money for jailed financier Bernard Madoff’s investors.
Federal Judge Jed Rakoff noted the figure in an order issued Wednesday. A court-appointed trustee who sued the owners of the Mets had asked for $1 billion. Rakoff tossed out most of the claims in a decision issued Tuesday.
The lawsuit had claimed that the owners of the Mets either knew or should have known that Madoff was operating a multidecade fraud that cheated thousands of investors out of billions of dollars. Madoff, 73, is serving a 150-year prison sentence.
• Former outfielder Milton Bradley was arrested for investigation of felony battery. Police said the outfielder, released by Seattle this year, was arrested Tuesday at a San Fernando Valley, Calif., home. Details of the incident were not available. Bradley was arrested at the house in January for allegedly threatening a woman, but no charges were filed.

Hall of Famer Sabonis resting after suffering heart attack
KAUNAS, Liithuania — Hall of Fame center Arvydas Sabonis is in stable condition after suffering a heart attack. Doctors in Sabonis’ hometown of Kaunas, said Wednesday that the former NBA player is in intensive care, but the heart attack is not life-threatening. Sabonis, 46, went into cardiac arrest while playing basketball Tuesday night. He helped the Soviet Union win gold at the 1988 Olympics, beating the United States in the semifinals. Sabonis played seven seasons for the Portland Trail Blazers from 1995 to 2003.

Holden sidelined six more months following surgery
BOLTON, England — Bolton midfielder Stuart Holden was ruled out for another six months following surgery on the same knee injury that had sidelined him since March. The American needed 26 stitches following a challenge by Manchester United defender Jonny Evans in a Premier League match.
Holden, 26, made his long-awaited return Sept. 20 in the League Cup against Aston Villa, but Bolton announced Wednesday that Holden was to undergo a “routine procedural follow up” later in the day that would keep him out for six weeks. However, the procedure revealed cartilage damage and Holden now faces another long period out of action.
