ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Dream will be without center Erika de Souza for the rest of their WNBA playoffs series against Indiana after she left to join the Brazilian national team.
Brazil is playing in an Olympic qualifying tournament in Colombia. The single-elimination event runs through Oct. 1. De Souza will rejoin the Dream as soon as her home country plays its final game.
De Souza scored eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds in Atlanta’s loss to Indiana in Game 1 of the best-of-three Eastern Conference finals. The Dream must win Sunday at Atlanta to extend the series to a decisive contest two nights later and keep alive its hopes of a second straight trip to the WNBA finals.
The WNBA finals begin Oct. 2.
