ST. LOUIS (AP) - Matt Holliday is back in the St. Louis Cardinals’ lineup after missing nine games with a tendon injury on his right middle finger.
He rejoins a St. Louis team that entered the day trailing Atlanta by three games in the NL wild-card race with five games left.
Rafael Furcal also returned for Saturday’s game against the Chicago Cubs after sitting out one game. The shortstop committed five errors in his last six games, and mishandled a potential double play ball that launched the New York Mets’ six-run ninth in St. Louis’ 8-6 loss on Thursday.
Holliday was batting fifth instead of cleanup for the first time, hitting behind Lance Berkman.
