IRVING, Texas — With his arms crossed, ball cap on forward and an electronic stimulation device working to heal his broken rib, Tony Romo could only watch as the other Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks threw warm-up passes at the start of practice Thursday.
Still, just being on the field was an indication Romo could start Monday night against the Washington Redskins.
Romo wore a jersey and shorts and moved gingerly. When everyone stretched, he was slow to join them, then didn’t do anything that required bending or moving his arms. Coach Jason Garrett has repeatedly referred to Romo’s status as day tgo day.
The status of many other key players remains in flux.
Receivers Dez Bryant (thigh) and Miles Austin (hamstring) were not on the field. Neither were center Phil Costa (knee) and left guard Derrick Dockery (knee). Dockery moved into the lineup last week because Bill Nagy (knee) was hurt. Nagy was back Thursday.
Around the league
• EAGLES: Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick returned to practice, just four days after he suffered a concussion at Atlanta. Vick was seen throwing passes to assistant coaches, jogging around with teammates and participating in all the drills that the other quarterbacks, Mike Kafka and Vince Young, participated in.
• BENGALS: A marijuana shipment from California tracked by authorities ended at the home of Cincinnati receiver Jerome Simpson, where police say they found more drugs. The package contained 2 1/2 pounds of marijuana. The case is being investigated by police at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, along with other local authorities.
• SEAHAWKS: Former No. 4 overall pick linebacker Aaron Curry is now in a fight to keep his starting job with Seattle. Curry has struggled to find a role in the NFL after being the highest linebacker drafted since LaVar Arrington was the second overall pick in 2000. He has just 5 1/2 sacks in three seasons.
