BEREA, OHIO (AP) - One week after an embarrassing loss, the Cleveland Browns bounced back _ just as first-year coach Pat Shurmur knew they would.

Shurmur said Monday he was confident his team would respond following a season-opening loss to Cincinnati, when the Browns got caught in their defensive huddle and the Bengals threw a game-winning touchdown pass. On Sunday, the Browns beat Indianapolis 27-19 for Shurmur’s first win as an NFL head coach.

Shurmur said his young team has responded to everything his coaching staff has asked. The Browns cut down on their penalties, stayed in manageable situations on offense and their defense kept the Colts in check.

Several players credited Shurmur and his staff for staying positive following the Week 1 loss at home.
