It’s hard to crack the top 10 of President Obama’s greatest gaffes, but the Operation Fast and Furious fiasco may have shot to No. 1 recently (“ATF shake-up follows inquiry into Operation Fast and Furious,” Page 1, Aug. 31). What American outside of this peculiar administration would ever think that authorizing illegal gun sales to get weapons to Mexican criminals was a good idea?

Last December, American Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed in a gunfight with Mexican bandits. The bandits fled, leaving behind two AK-47 semiautomatics purchased illegally from a gun shop involved in Operation Fast and Furious.

It rivals the $825 billion taken from taxpayers (as all government expenditures are) to supposedly stimulate employment and provide our jovial leader with a chuckle about those nonexistent “shovel-ready” jobs. Will Mr. Obama’s latest screech for another taxpayer-funded stimulus raise unemployment even more?

The Fast and Furious idea rivals the health care bill that no citizen poll favored at the time it was shoved down America’s throat by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who dared to say we’d learn what was in it after it passed. That bill contained a clause that will force Americans to purchase a government product. Oh, that pesky Constitution.

It rivals the sky-is-falling tantrum staged to get another $2.4 trillion in spending approved for an administration that has loaded $4 trillion in debt on our kids’ backs in three years. Granted, just $10 million of that was for Obama family vacations.
