OPINION:
There seems to be a concerted effort by certain members of Congress to demonize Tea Party members for the government’s economic and other financial failures. Yet some of these members have been in Congress for some time and voted for many bills that put us in the financial mess we are now in.
The Tea Party didn’t have any say or vote on those bills. The demonizing members of Congress voted for the failed $825 billion stimulus package. They voted for propping up Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the government institutions that caused the housing industry to collapse, with many people losing their homes and jobs as a result. Now 14 million people are out of work and the unemployment rate is 9.1 percent.
Still, the two most vocal demonizers in Congress complain about the high unemployment rate of 17 percent and 22 percent, respectively, in their districts. They ought to look in the mirror to find the culpable parties. They, not the Tea Party, have represented their districts. If unemployment is high, that demonstrates that those representatives have failed their constituents. These same representatives voted for Obamacare, which will destroy our health system as we know it. Their actions - or inaction, more accurately - led to the first-ever U.S. credit-rating downgrade.
With such a dismal record of failure, these criticizers have no business criticizing the Tea Party or anyone else. They should quit making derogatory speeches and instead they should take responsibility for effective actions.
