Last week, North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue told a civic group that a solution to the nation’s jobs crisis would be to suspend congressional elections (“Texas Hold ’Em unfolds in El Paso,” Commentary, Monday). Two days later, she claimed that she was being sarcastic.

I don’t believe her. I think that she was sending aloft a trial balloon for President Obama. Mr. Obama said recently that unemployment and the economy constituted a “national crisis.” I suspect that he wanted to test the waters for claiming a crisis to possibly postpone or cancel the general election of 2012.

Face it: There are fascists in the Democratic Party. Those are the people who don’t respect the Constitution or the constitutional rights of others. They simply want power, and they want to dictate to others how to live their lives. I count Beverly Perdue and Barack Obama among them.

Thank God that not every Democrat agrees with these individuals within the party. I don’t. I am an elected Democratic precinct committeeman and a Tea Party Democrat. I respect the Constitution, and I respect other people’s constitutional rights. I believe that there are many more Democrats like me. I certainly hope so.
