An offense dogged by injury suffered another loss Monday when tight end Fred Davis showed up at Redskins Park with a walking boot on his left leg.

Coach Mike Shanahan said Davis suffered a Grade 1 sprain of his left ankle. That’s the mildest of the three sprain levels, with minimal damage to the ankle’s ligaments. Shanahan didn’t know how long Davis will be sidelined.

“There’s always concern,” Shanahan said.

Davis has been the Redskins’ most consistent offensive threat, catching 36 balls for 517 yards and two touchdowns this season. Starting tight end Chris Cooley already is out for the season with knee and hand injuries, one of five offensive starters sidelined.

Davis wasn’t available for comment.

Armstrong wants to catch on

After finishing with one catch for nine yards Sunday, receiver Anthony Armstrong didn’t sound content with his role in the offense.

“It’s kind of been frustrating all year,” he said. “I’m going to keep working, keep running routes, keep getting open and eventually the ball’s going to come my way.”

However, Armstrong has been targeted eight times in the past two games but caught only one ball. That’s in line with a season where he’s been targeted 18 times but has five catches for 49 yards to show for it.

“I’m taking two people away,” Armstrong said of drawing double-coverage, “so maybe somebody’s open underneath, you know?”

Armstrong, who caught 44 passes last season, missed two games with a hamstring injury, but expected to play a greater role along with rookie Niles Paul to fill in for the injured Santana Moss.

Redskins claim Choice

Former Cowboys running back Ta-shard Choice was claimed on waivers Monday.

Choice rushed for 1,139 yards in four seasons with the Cowboys, including 75 in six games this season. Of late, he’s battled an injured shoulder and hamstring.

He gives the Redskins a third running back behind Ryan Torain and Roy Helu after Tim Hightower was sidelined for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The Redskins waived cornerback Brandyn Thompson to clear a roster spot for Choice.

Extra points

Shanahan didn’t have a return date for tackle Trent Williams (ankle), but said “there’s a chance that he’ll be ready this week.”

• Safety Kareem Moore (knee) remains on the physically unable to perform list.

• Shanahan expects linebacker Rocky McIntosh (ankle) to be fine by Wednesday’s practice.
