WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (AP) - A mayor in northern New Jersey says a Formula One race will be held in 2013 along the Hudson River just minutes from New York City.

Mayor Felix Roque (ROW’-kuh) says the Grand Prix event will be contested on a course that runs through his town of West New York as well as neighboring Weehawken.

Roque calls the race the “second miracle on the Hudson,” referring to the 2009 splash landing of a plane in which all passengers and crew survived.

He says the race will bring worldwide attention and economic growth to the region.

The U.S. hasn’t hosted a Formula One race since 2007 in Indianapolis. A race is also scheduled for Austin, Texas, in 2012.

More details are expected at news conference Tuesday afternoon in Weehawken.
