NO LEAD SAFE
Baseball’s regular season ended with a wild day of comebacks. College football had a few of its own on Saturday.
Texas Tech, Navy, Illinois and Arkansas all rallied from deficits of at least 18 points, though the Midshipmen were the only team unable to turn it into a win.
Texas Tech had the biggest comeback of the big schools, rallying from 20 down to beat Kansas 45-34.
The Citadel had the biggest of the smaller schools, scoring four unanswered touchdowns in the second half after trailing 24-0 to beat Chattanooga 28-27.
The No. 24 Illini scored 28 straight points _ the final seven on Nathan Scheelhaase’s 1-yard run with 13 seconds left _ to win 38-35 after trailing by 18.
No. 18 Arkansas also trailed by 18 at halftime before rallying for a 42-38 victory over No. 14 Texas A&M, which blew a 17-point lead at home last week.
The Midshipmen rallied from 18 points down in the fourth quarter to force overtime against Air Force, but lost 35-34 after a long conversion attempt was blocked following an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Kriss Proctor after his touchdown run.
SMU also coughed up a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter before beating No. 40-33 in overtime, and Washington State scored two TDs in the final 2 1/2 minutes to rally from 10 down to beat Colorado 31-27.

JEFFERSON RETURNS
LSU’s Jordan Jefferson heard plenty of boos in his return from a suspension that stemmed from a bar fight.
The embattled quarterback ended up turning those to cheers as he stretched across the goal line for a touchdown on his first play to give the top-ranked Tigers a lead they would not relinquish in a 35-7 victory over Kentucky.
Jefferson was reinstated this week after a grand jury reduced charges he faces in connection with an Aug. 19 bar fight to a misdemeanor.
Jarrett Lee remained the starter and played most of the game, but Jefferson was able to score on an early fourth-and-goal to set off cheers that drowned out the boos.

TCU’S STREAK OVER
TCU’s 22-game home winning streak is over. The Horned Frogs’ long stay in the national rankings could be next.
No. 20 TCU rallied from 16 points down in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but SMU held on for a 40-33 upset on J.J. McDermott’s fourth touchdown pass of the game and one last defensive stand.
The Horned Frogs scored 23 points behind three fourth-quarter touchdown passes from Casey Pachall, a month after they ambushed Baylor with 25 points in the final period before the Bears drove to the deciding field goal in a 50-48 win.
That loss in Waco ended TCU’s 25-game regular-season winning streak. Sunday could mark the first time the Frogs are unranked since October 2008.

GAMECOCKS QB CHANGE?
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says there are changes ahead _ and that’s usually not a good thing for his quarterback.
Stephen Garcia threw two interceptions and the Gamecocks offense sputtered badly in a 16-13 loss to defending national champion Auburn.
Garcia threw for 3,059 yards and 20 touchdowns a year ago as South Carolina won its first SEC Eastern Division title. But the fifth-year senior hasn’t looked anything like that this season with 844 yards through five games, nine interceptions and just four touchdown passes.
He was 9 of 23 for 160 yards with the two interceptions against Auburn.
