SANTA MONICA, CALIF. (AP) - Activision Blizzard says its third-quarter net income nearly tripled thanks to strong demand for its video games. The company is also raising its full-year outlook in the heels of Tuesday’s launch of its latest “Call of Duty” blockbuster.

Activision Blizzard Inc. said Tuesday that it earned $148 million, or 13 cents per share, in the July-September period. That’s up from $51 million, or 4 cents per share, a year earlier.

Activision says revenue rose 1 percent to $754 million from $745 million.

Adjusted earnings and revenue handily surpassed Wall Street’s expectations for the latest quarter. These results account for special items and changes in revenue from games with online components.

Activision’s fourth-quarter outlook is also above expectations. Activision, which is based in Santa Monica, Calif., tends to give conservative guidance.
