Tampa Bay defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and St. Louis wide receiver Greg Salas are done for the season.
McCoy, chosen third in the 2010 draft, tore his right biceps Sunday during the opening quarter of a 27-16 defeat to New Orleans. McCoy had just returned to the lineup after sitting out the previous two games because of an ankle sprain.
It’s the second straight year his season ended prematurely because of an arm injury. McCoy missed the final three games of his rookie year with a torn left biceps.
Salas will undergo surgery for a broken right leg. The rookie leads the team with 27 receptions. He was injured when a tackler rolled on him after a 5-yard catch in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s overtime loss at Arizona.
49ers running back Frank Gore injured his left ankle Sunday and had X-rays, which were negative. He was clearly sore and needed help getting off the postgame podium in Washington.
Gore, who has five straight 100-yard games, said he expects to practice this week and play against the New York Giants.
“I’ll be all right. I’m cool. Just checking up some things on my body. Yeah, I’ll be all right,” Gore said.
Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin left in the second quarter against Seattle with a right hamstring injury and didn’t return. Austin is expected to be out for as long as a month.
Austin is sidelined by the latest in a series of hamstring problems that have plagued him throughout his six-year career. With Austin out, more will be expected from wide receivers Dez Bryant, Laurent Robinson and Kevin Ogletree.
Arizona cornerback Michael Adams, carted off the field with his neck immobilized after a violent collision late in Sunday’s win over the Rams, is fine, coach Ken Whisenhunt said. Adams was riding an exercise bike Monday. The neck was treated carefully because it’s the normal precaution in the NFL, Whisenhunt said.
Titans receiver Lavelle Hawkins had a dislocated finger on his right hand in the 24-17 loss to the Bengals, but returned to the sideline after getting treatment in the locker room and was on the field at the end of the game.
Fellow WR Nate Washington has a sore right hip and might be limited early in the week. Tight end Jared Cook has a sore knee, while safety Chris Hope is expected back at practice Wednesday after being out since breaking his left forearm Oct. 2 at Cleveland.
RB Peyton Hillis will not play in Cleveland’s upcoming game against St. Louis, the fourth straight game the beleaguered running back has missed since straining his left hamstring on Oct. 16. Hillis was on track to play Sunday in Houston, but reinjured his hamstring during practice on Friday.
Coach Pat Shurmur said Hillis will spend the week getting rehab on his nagging injury and there were no immediate plans to place the 25-year-old on injured reserve.
Also, Shurmur said running back Montario Hardesty “will likely miss” Sunday’s game. Hardesty tore a calf muscle in the previous game in San Francisco and could be out for several weeks.
Starting WR Mohamed Massaquoi was sent home Monday, still feeling the effects of his second concussion in 13 months.
Massaquoi sustained a concussion in the Browns’ Oct. 23 game against Seattle and missed the San Francisco game. He sat out one day of practice last week, but started Sunday against the Texans before being taken out late in the third quarter when he felt “woozy.”
Injuries are piling up for the Bills.
Coach Chan Gailey says the injury to kicker Rian Lindell’s right shoulder is “not good,” and the team will try out replacements this week. Gailey ruled out Lindell from playing at Dallas on Sunday. Lindell was hurt making a diving tackle on Joe McKnight on the second half-opening kickoff return in a 27-11 loss to the Jets on Sunday.
As for DT Kyle Williams, Gailey added the player could miss the rest of the season with a left foot injury that’s forced him to miss the past three games. Williams will visit a specialist this week.
Denver coach John Fox had no update on safety Rahim Moore’s concussion.
“It was definitely scary because it happened right in front (of me),” Fox said. “It was a relief when you saw him moving around and the fact that it’s a concussion is still serious, but it was not as serious as it looked when it happened.”
Moore was hurt on the first play of Denver’s win over Oakland.
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said RT Jammal Brown left Sunday’s loss to San Francisco with a groin injury, not a hip as the coach said after the game. WR Niles Paul will miss a couple of weeks with turf toe.
TE Dustin Keller and RB Shonn Greene left the Jets’ win at Buffalo with head injuries, but Keller returned and Greene was held out because it was late in the game. He could have returned.
“We feel good about them and we’ll make sure they don’t have any setbacks,” coach Rex Ryan said, adding he expects DE Mike DeVito, who has missed two straight games with a knee injury, to return against New England.
“We’ll need him,” Ryan said. “We have to have him.”
Rams LB Josh Hull has a hamstring injury and will undergo an MRI. TE Lance Kendricks is day to day with a mid-foot strain. Tackle Jason Smith remains out with a concussion that has sidelined him for two games, but DT Darell Scott could return from a concussion this week. Scott also has missed two games.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said middle linebacker Rey Maualuga, cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones and tight end Jermaine Gresham are expected back at practice this week. Maualuga has missed three games with an ankle injury. Jones sat out the win at Tennessee on Sunday with a pulled hamstring. Gresham has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury.
