LAGOS, NIGERIA (AP) - A popular Nigerian comedian who was held as a drug suspect has been released, and his lawyer says he may sue the country’s drug law enforcement agency.
Baba Suwe was freed on $3,300 bail Friday in line with a Tuesday court order that said he would remain held only if he excreted drugs.
Investigators had held the actor since Oct. 12 at Nigeria’s busiest airport. They accused him of swallowing narcotics before boarding a flight to Paris, but found no drugs.
Lawyer Bamidele Aturu says the comedian may sue Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency over tests conducted without his consent.
Antidrug agency spokesman Ofoyeju Mitchell says he was not aware of a Wednesday test that Aturu described as “unlawful.”
