As the holidays approach, many families may wish they had the perfect venue to host an array of friends and relatives, a place where relaxation and entertainment are available equally for every age group.

At Timberline Four Seasons and the Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center near Davis, W.Va., homes are available for rent and for sale that could provide the ultimate in relaxation and rejuvenation.

As winter approaches, the focus for many Washington-area residents becomes skiing. At Timberline, downhill and cross-country skiing are both available, along with snowboarding and tubing in the Appalachian Mountains. Some of the trails include lighting for night skiing.

Athletically inclined family members can enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding and golfing in season, along with boating, fishing and hunting. The resort also offers spectacular scenery for those who prefer to contemplate the mountains and trees, stroll by a stream, walk through the woods or take photographs. Several restaurants and shops are nearby.

Vacation homes are available in a variety of sizes and styles at Timberline, including newly constructed homes in the Winterhaven development, a ski-in, ski-out community. One of the most luxurious homes in this development, on Winterhaven Lot 69, is on the market for $795,000, including all furnishings.

This home, nestled in the woods adjacent to the Twister ski trail, includes custom-designed furniture and an array of amenities. The distinctive contemporary-style home of stone and wood includes a deck that wraps around three sides and has an oversized hot tub and outside fire pit. A patio is accessible from the lower level.

Wood steps lead to the wood front door and into the foyer, which has hardwood flooring, wood walls and a double-door closet. The home has been designed to accommodate a family with skis and snow gear, so plenty of closet space is provided.

The main living area is an open two-story great room with a soaring wood ceiling, hardwood flooring and a dramatic floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. A wall of glass doors with a transom over all frames views of the woods and snow, and more windows flank the fireplace.

The living area is furnished with couches and wood chairs as well as custom-designed wood tables and a wood stand with one of the home’s three televisions. The property comes with two DVD players in addition to the televisions. Nearby is a powder room.

The kitchen includes wood flooring with matching wood cabinets, granite counters, stainless steel appliances and bright red walls. The center island features custom-made chairs. Adjacent to the kitchen is a dining room with a wood table and custom-designed wood chairs, red walls and windows on two sides.

The main level also has a master bedroom with hardwood flooring and a custom-designed bed. The adjacent full bath includes a whirlpool tub set under an arched window, a double-sink vanity and a separate shower.

Upstairs are two more large bedrooms, each with a sloping ceiling. One bedroom has bunk beds, while the other has a bed and a futon for extra guests. These two bedrooms share a hall bath with a double-sink vanity and a combination tub and shower.

The finished lower level includes perhaps the ultimate enticement for friends to visit: a complete game room with a pool table, an air-hockey table, a ping-pong table and an arcade game with more than 50 electronic games. The adjacent family room has a stone fireplace, a sectional sofa and a dining table in one corner. This level also has a minikitchen, a bedroom and a full bath.
