RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — More Virginians are expected to travel this Thanksgiving weekend, despite higher gas prices and airfares. AAA Mid-Atlantic says about 1.3 million Virginians are expected to travel between next Wednesday and the following Sunday. That’s a 3.8 percent increase over last year. Virginia is not alone. Nationally, AAA forecasts 42.5 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a 4 percent increase over the 2010 holiday. Travelers will have to spend more this year. In Virginia, the average price of gasoline stands at $3.29 a gallon, which is 52 cents more than a year ago. Thanksgiving airfares are expected to be 20 percent higher than last year.
