TUNIS, TUNISIA (AP) - The trial in Tunisia over broadcasting the animated film “Persepolis” was cut short after an uproar in the courtroom.

Lawyers for the two sides shouted at each other and exchanged insults, prompting the judge on Thursday to adjourn the controversial trial until Jan. 23.

The privately owned Nessma television station provoked an angry reaction when it broadcast a dubbed version of Iranian director Marjane Satrapi’s award-winning animated film. Conservatives objected to parts of the film that portrayed God as a bearded figure, something forbidden in Islam.

The owner of the Nessma station was questioned by the judge about his reasons for broadcasting the film.

Tunisia was rocked by several demonstrations over the film prior to its successful elections in October.
