OPINION:
I am not really surprised that the majority of mainstream media would cast Newt Gingrich’s candidacy aside and concentrate more on a pretty face or a lightning rod (“Once written off, Gingrich surges,” Web, Thursday). That sells papers.
But Mr. Gingrich, despite his personal baggage, has been from Day One the most knowledgeable and experienced of any Republican or Democratic candidate. He speaks to the country in a sane manner and doesn’t resort to jive and knuckle-bumping to incite a riot. He knows our country and what has and will make it great - unlike our temporary resident in the White House who has no idea what his own history is, much less knowledge of this country.
The Democrats will hammer Mr. Gingrich about his personal history but continue to hail “philanderer-in-chief” Bill Clinton as the second coming. If the Democrats can overlook the Clinton legacy, I can surely forgive Mr. Gingrich his difficulties.
Put Mr. Gingrich and President Obama on the same stage and the mystery man from Harvard will disappear from the scene in a puff of smoke. America needs a leader who speaks from the heart and can back up his words with experience, not another Ivy League pinhead who quotes from “Das Kapital” and backs it up with manure.
