OPINION:
While I am fortunate to live in an area unaffected by high unemployment, I do have firsthand experience dealing with a catastrophic flood, and the problem-solving lesson I learned from it is simple: You help each other.
This same principle can be applied to unemployment. If five workers volunteered to cut back to a four-day workweek, that would create one full-time job opportunity for someone else. Of course, there are many other considerations, but imagine if five employees across 50,000 companies did this. If doing this meant someone else in need of employment could get a job, I would do it in a heartbeat.
