MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — John Beck’s run as the Washington Redskins’ starting quarterback is over after three miserable losses.

Coach Mike Shanahan has named Rex Grossman the starter for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. The NFL Network first reported the news.

Shanahan has now run through three starting quarterbacks since he took over last season. He began his second year with castoffs Grossman and Beck as his two options and insisted both could lead a winning team.

“I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’m putting my reputation on these guys that they can play,” Shanahan said on July 29.

Neither lasted more than five starts.

Grossman helped Washington to a 3-1 start but was benched after a four-interception performance against Philadelphia in Week 6. Beck then failed to spark an offense that also is coping with a slew of injuries to top contributors.

In three games plus the fourth quarter against Philadelphia, Beck completed 60.6 percent of his passes, had two touchdowns, four interceptions and was sacked 15 times. He also averaged 3.9 yards on 11 rushes with two rushing touchdowns. His passer rating was 72.1.

Grossman completed 55.8 percent of his passes in his five starts this season. He had six touchdowns, nine interceptions for a 66.5 passer rating.
