NEWARK, N.J. — The Capitals are a much different team with Mike Green than without him, which is why they should be a happy group Friday night.
Green is expected to make his return to the Caps lineup at the New Jersey Devils, a source indicated. Officially, the defenseman is a game-time decision, but all signs point to him playing for the first time since Oct. 22.
“It’s more how he feels. He’s cleared to play,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “If he feels good enough to play, he’s going to play.”
No Caps players took the scratches skate, a normal occurrence in Newark. But Green said he was feeling good.
It’ll be a welcome return for Green and the Caps, who now perhaps more than ever realize the importance of him playing.
“Well, we’re 7-0 with him and 2-4 without him. I think those numbers are self-evident,” Boudreau said. “When he’s at the top of his game, you know how important he is.”
