LAGOS, NIGERIA (AP) - A Nigerian court has ordered authorities to free a popular comedian held for more than two weeks after a drug screening.
A federal high court judge on Tuesday said that Baba Suwe should be released Friday.
National Drug Law Enforcement Agency investigators stopped Baba Suwe on Oct. 12 at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport before he could board a flight to Paris.
The agency said a scanner picked up a suspicious object inside his body, though officials have not found any drugs on the actor.
Baba Suwe’s arrest shocked fans of Nollywood, Nigeria’s prolific low-budget film industry believed to have began in the early 1990s.
Nigeria is a major transit point for cocaine and heroin moving to Europe and the U.S.
