ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County fire officials say an explosion that destroyed a Rockville area home has left two people with serious injuries.

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham says a man and a woman were blown out of the home during the explosion about 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 11200 block of Ashley Drive. He says they were extricated from the debris by firefighters. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Graham says the debris extended as far as 50 yards from the home, and that the explosion caused moderate damage to two other homes.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the county fire department and local utility companies.
