Maryland State Police said Wednesday the death of a missing teen found last month in the Susquehanna River at the Conowingo Dam was a homicide.
Phylicia Barnes, a 16-year-old from Monroe, N.C., disappeared Dec. 28 while visiting her older half-siblings in Baltimore. She was found dead at the dam on April 20.
State Police said an autopsy also determined the cause of death, but that information was not released because it is important to the ongoing investigation.
“To release a cause of death at this time could jeopardize the investigation by revealing information known only to the person or persons responsible for her death,” police said in a statement. “The cause of death will be made public at an appropriate time in the future.”
