U.S. Park Police on Thursday identified a motorist killed in a crash on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and asked the public for more information about what may have been a roadside exchange between the victim and another person.

William K. Ward, 34 , of the District, was killed in a crash in the northbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway north of Riverdale Road at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The roadway was closed until around midnight as police investigated the incident.

“We received a 911 transfer call from a woman who reported some activity on the side of the road that may have involved the deceased driver and another person,” police said in a statement issued Thursday. “Before we were able to capture her contact information, the call was dropped. We would like her to contact the U.S. Park Police.

Park Police also asked for information from anyone else who may have seen the activity the woman described or saw a car being operated either very slowly or at a high speed in a reckless manner.

Police said the area where the crash occurred can have cellphone emergency calls routed to several jurisdictions and warned that some callers might not have had their reports transferred to Park Police. They encouraged anyone with information to call their tip line at 202/610-8737.
