DENVER (AP) - Jorge De La Rosa’s season appears to be over after the Colorado Rockies left-hander tore a ligament in his pitching elbow.
De La Rosa left Tuesday’s game against Arizona in the third inning with soreness in his left elbow and went to the hospital for an MRI.
About an hour after the Rockies’ 12-4 win in the opener of a day-night doubleheader, the Rockies tweeted, “Jorge De La Rosa suffered a complete tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. The next step is being discussed.”
That likely means Tommy John surgery that would sideline the hard-throwing lefty for at least a year.
De La Rosa was the Rockies’ top pitcher so far with a 5-2 record and a 3.51 ERA. He was coming off his first career complete game when he got hurt.

DENVER (AP) _ Colorado left-hander Jorge De La Rosa left the game against Arizona in the third inning Tuesday with soreness in his pitching elbow.
Rockies pitching coach Bob Apodaca visited De La Rosa on the mound with one out, then went back to the dugout. After a double steal on the next pitch, Apodaca was summoned again along with manager Jim Tracy and trainer Keith Dugger.
They watched as De La Rosa, who was coming off his first career complete game, made one warmup pitch. Apodaca then signaled for Greg Reynolds to come in and De La Rosa left the game with a pained look on his face.
The game was the opener of a day-night doubleheader.
