CAPE CANAVERAL, FLA. (AP) - Wounded congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords watched her astronaut husband launch into space with the families of the other five astronauts.

They were on top of the launch control center at Kennedy Space Center when shuttle Endeavour took flight on Monday with commander Mark Kelly and his crew.

The congresswoman’s chief of staff says there were hugs all around. She quoted Giffords as saying, “Good stuff, good stuff.”

Giffords was sitting in a wheelchair and watched with her mother. She was wearing Kelly’s wedding ring on a chain. He took her wedding ring into space.

After liftoff, Kelly’s identical twin Scott gave red tulips to Giffords and a red rose to his brother’s two daughters.

The Arizona congresswoman was wounded in a shooting in January.
