OPINION:
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet A. Napolitano recently said she wants to create an index that will gauge the number of people who have been deterred from trying to sneak across the U.S.-Mexico border to assure us that border security is better than we think (“DHS wants new yardstick for improvements,” Politics, May 5).
That’s similar to President Obama’s effort to present a rosy picture for employment numbers when he cites jobs and “jobs saved.”
Talk about moving the goal posts. When the numbers don’t fit your liking, redefine the goal. It reminds me of the semantics an earlier president employed in debating what the definition of “is” is.
