CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs put catcher Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain Wednesday and recalled catcher Welington Castillo from Triple-A Iowa.
Soto was injured in the top of the first inning in Tuesday night’s 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals and replaced by pinch-hitter Koyie Hill in the bottom of the inning.
Soto is batting .226 with eight doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI in 31 games with the Cubs this season.
Castillo made his major league debut with the Cubs last season, batting .300 with a homer and five RBIs in seven games.
