SURPRISE, ARIZ. (AP) - Brandon Webb threw to hitters for the first time this spring training, throwing 62 pitches during batting practice for the Texas Rangers.

After his 14-minute session Wednesday, Webb said he felt good.

The 2006 NL Cy Young Award winner hasn’t pitched in a major league game since the 2009 opener for Arizona because of shoulder surgery. He signed with this offseason with the AL champions, who hope he will be part of their starting rotation, though they know the right-hander likely will not be ready for the start of the regular season.

Webb is scheduled to throw another batting practice session Saturday. The Rangers haven’t said when he will pitch in a game.
