LAKELAND, FLA. (AP) - Detroit Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya is undergoing tests on his sore right elbow and forearm and there’s a chance he might not be ready by opening day.

Trainer Kevin Rand says no major structural damage was found and the club is being aggressive in trying to identify what’s wrong.

Rand said Tuesday it would be at least two weeks before Zumaya would be cleared to throw. The trainer said the team is being realistic in the timeline for his recovery.

Zumaya was 2-1 with a 2.58 ERA in 31 games for the Tigers last season before a shoulder injury ended his season June 29. He has been on the disabled list every season since 2007.
