WASHINGTON (AP) — Authorities said on Tuesday that a generator battery exploded at a warehouse in Northeast Washington, injuring 3 people.

D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said firefighters were called to the warehouse in the 2800 block of New York Avenue Northeast about 8 a.m. Tuesday. He said an industrial battery malfunctioned and exploded while renovations were being done to the building.

Mr. Piringer said 25 workers were in the warehouse at the time, and all have been evaluated. Three have been taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

The building has been evacuated, and officials are ventilating it, Mr. Piringer said.
