It should not come as a surprise that Capitol Hill remained silent so long about the events in Libya (“Capitol Hill falls silent as Libya war rages,” Page 1, Tuesday). After all the dancing around that President Obama did, he finally was conned by the United Nations into involving us in a civil war.

Why are we there doing anything other than rescuing American citizens? If we wanted Moammar Gadhafi dead, we could have killed him years ago. Do we want him out of power? Certainly. But do we have any idea who is behind this uprising? No. Just as we had little idea whom we were suporting recently in Egypt and Tunisia, we are less than sure that we are supporting the will of the people in Libya. But we should know that things can only end badly. In the Middle East, one despot seems to simply take over from the previous one.

If the United States must declare war on something, I suggest the United Nations. There is no more corrupt organization on the planet. Mr. Obama was suckered into this war like the rookie he is.
