HARTFORD, CONN. (AP) - A U.S. congressman is asking CBS and the NCAA to move UConn’s first-round NCAA tournament game with Bucknell from cable to network television in Connecticut.
U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, in a letter to NCAA President Mark Emmert and CBS president Les Moonves says that keeping Thursday’s game on TNT would make it inaccessible to 150,000 Connecticut homes without cable or satellite.
In a departure from past practices, there will be no regionalization of games televised on CBS this year.
CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus and Turner Sports chief David Levy said last week they weren’t too concerned about the effect on hometown fans who don’t get cable, since they can still watch for free online.
