Weiner story turns painful for ’Daily Show’s’ Stewart

The story about U.S. Rep. Anthony D. Weiner’s use of Twitter to send a lewd photo to a woman has been awkward for comic Jon Stewart, a friend of the congressman’s. On Tuesday, it proved painful as well.

Mr. Stewart broke a glass and gashed his wrist while taping a Weiner skit on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” The taping was stopped briefly so a bleeding Mr. Stewart could get medical attention, then resumed after he was bandaged up. Network spokesman Steve Albani said the accident was left in Tuesday’s show.

Mr. Stewart and Mr. Weiner briefly roomed together when they were younger, a point “The Daily Show” host has noted over the past week. That hasn’t stopped Mr. Stewart from making fun of his friend, who admitted Monday to inappropriate online contact with women he met on social networks.

Tuesday’s skit featured Mr. Stewart in a mock news conference designed to resemble Mr. Weiner’s from the previous day. Mr. Stewart broke the glass when the script called for him to make a margarita.

Fishburne to leave role on CBS’ ’CSI’

Laurence Fishburne is closing the file on his “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” career.

The actor won’t be back on the CBS crime drama this fall, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity Tuesday because CBS had yet to announce Mr. Fishburne’s departure.

Mr. Fishburne joined the “CSI” cast as Dr. Raymond Langston midway through the 2008-09 season. He stepped in to replace departing star William Petersen.

The person said CBS and the show’s producers were taking Mr. Fishburne’s departure in stride and were aware that his movie career made a long TV tenure unlikely.

“CSI” returns for its 12th season this fall and continues to rank among the 20 top-rated shows.

Mr. Fishburne’s credits include “The Matrix” films and the upcoming “Contagion” with Matt Damon.

First lady to stop by Nickelodeon’s ’iCarly’

Michelle Obama is going to be on one of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows.

The first lady is set to appear on an upcoming episode of the comedy “iCarly” to promote Joining Forces, an initiative aimed at increasing awareness and support for military families, network president Cyma Zarghami said Wednesday.

The show’s main character, Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove), is the daughter of a colonel serving overseas in the military. When Carly’s two best friends break some rules to set up a Web chat so Carly can speak to her father on his birthday, “the first lady discovers it and comes to have a chat with them in the most positive way possible,” Ms. Zarghami said.

Show creator and executive producer Dan Schneider wrote the episode just for Mrs. Obama and her Joining Forces initiative.

“When she approached us, after he was done jumping for joy, Dan sat down and came up with a very, very clever idea,” Ms. Zarghami said.

The episode is likely to air in January.
