NEW YORK (AP) - Atlanta Braves rookie Jordan Schafer fouled a bunt off his face in a scary scene Friday night and was helped off the field.

Schafer left the game against the New York Mets in the fifth inning with a towel pressed tight to the right side of his face. There was no immediate report on his injury.

The Atlanta leadoff man opened the fifth by squaring around to bunt. Jonathon Niese’s pitch tailed in toward Schafer, and the ball deflected off his bat and squarely hit him.

Schafer was down for about a minute as a Braves trainer attended to him. The Atlanta center fielder was assisted toward the dugout. Eric Hinske took over the at-bat and struck out.
