NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The New Jersey Devils, who missed the playoffs last season for the first time since 1996, will open the 2011-12 season at home against the Philadelphia Flyers on Oct. 8.
The Devils, who are still in need of a coach, will start with three consecutive games at the Prudential Center. They will play a Columbus Day matinee against Carolina on Oct. 10, and follow with a contest against the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 13.
New Jersey’s first road game will be at Nashville a week after the season opener.
Nearly half of the Devils’ home schedule will be played on weekends, including eight games on Fridays, nine on Saturdays, and three on Sundays.
The first game against the rival New York Rangers won’t take place be until Dec. 20 in Newark. And the first of four games against the Stanley Cup-champion Bruins will be on Nov. 15 in Boston.
New Jersey will end the season at home against Ottawa with a matinee on Apr. 7.
