Letter writer Sam Hale (“Weiner is symbol of Democrats’ morality,” Friday) argues that sending Democrats to Washington is a “vote against fundamental American morality.” Apparently, a sizable contingent of Democratic voters have rejected American morality entirely, particularly as it relates to the religion that President Obama has argued that “bitter” Americans “cling to” when the going gets tough.

Instead, many liberals have subsumed traditional morality to a new set of values that esteem a sort of social justice while promoting a gape-jawed tolerance of behaviors that corrode and threaten the republic. Unfortunately, this pursuit of social justice usually involves reaching deeper into my pocket than any priest, pastor or rabbi would ever dream of doing while compelling me to subsidize behaviors that traditional morality has kept in check and at no cost to anyone. Whether it’s championing behaviors once seen as decadent or downplaying the threat of radical Islam - just as they once did with communism - those on the left are predictable allies with much that’s wrong in America.

As long as people like former Rep. Anthony D. Weiner, New York Democrat, can assist fellow liberals in laying claim to the earnings of another, I don’t think they really care how creative he is with a camera.
