LAWRENCE, KAN. (AP) - Kansas has added forward Kevin Young, a 6-foot-8 swingman who will be expected to contribute right away in the Jayhawks’ rebuilding project.
Coach Bill Self said Friday that Young will be a junior who can play next season. Self said he expects Young, of Perris, Calif., to be “an impact player” for the Jayhawks.
Young played for Loyola Marymount in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and started 62 of 65 games with the Lions. He averaged 9.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for LMU his freshman season and 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds his sophomore year.
Self said Young then graduated from a junior college and has two years left to play.
Kansas will be without twins Marcus and Markieff Morris, who are skipping their senior seasons to go into the NBA draft. Also leaving the program early to turn pro is freshman guard Josh Selby. In addition, guards Tyrel Reed and Brady Morningstar and swingman Mario Little all graduated.
