ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A powerful earthquake rocked Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, on Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Seismologists at the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said the earthquake struck with a magnitude of 5.2 shortly after 11 a.m. local time (3 p.m. EDT).
Tsunami program manager Cindi Pressler said the quake was centered about 50 miles southwest of Anchorage.
The quake occurred 30 miles below ground and rumbled for several seconds. It was felt across Anchorage and a wide area beyond the municipality.
Anchorage police spokeswoman Anita Shell said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
