The Democrats, their liberal base and their media supporters have been engaging in an all-out attack on former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (“Watch out for Mama Grizzly Palin’s bite,” Politics, Wednesday).

These attacks have been on her personal life, her religious beliefs and her intelligence. As governor of Alaska, Mrs. Palin served her citizens well. She is one of just a handful of Republicans who have committed to or are considering entering the Republican presidential campaign and are receiving this type of negative treatment.

Unfortunately for them, Democrats will have to defend their champion, Barack Obama, who in two-plus years has demonstrated both his inexperience and incompetence in dealing with a struggling economy, high unemployment and world politics. He has alienated people, broken agreements and seriously criticized our strongest allies, including the United Kingdom, Poland, the Czech Republic and Israel. Mr. Obama has also appointed Cabinet secretaries and “czars” who share his liberal agenda, and they will carry out his policies even when those policies are absolutely wrong for our consumers, businesses and workers.

Mr. Obama’s controversial approaches to health care and energy are prime examples of his job-killing policies, his favoritism toward union supporters and increased fees and taxes. Several of the committed or potential Republican candidates have served as governors or have strong business backgrounds and each of them is better qualified than Mr. Obama to deal with the problems our country faces now or will face in the future.
