BOSTON (AP) - The Vancouver Canucks have pulled goalie Roberto Luongo after he gave up three early goals to the Boston Bruins in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals.
Luongo was pulled just 8:35 into the Canucks’ potential Cup-clinching game Monday night. Brad Marchand, Milan Lucic and Andrew Ference scored on eight shots for the Bruins.
Luongo also was pulled from Game 4 in Boston early in the third period after falling behind 4-0 on the heels of the Bruins’ 8-1 victory in Game 3. Luongo has given up 15 goals in less than six periods in Boston during the finals, but just two in three games in Vancouver.
Luongo shut out the Bruins in Game 5 in Vancouver for his second 1-0 victory of the series, but then angered Boston fans when he criticized Bruins goalie Tim Thomas’ technique on Maxim Lapierre’s winning goal. The Bruins crowd booed and derisively chanted Luongo’s name until erupting in wild cheers when Schneider skated out to replace him after Ference’s goal.
Schneider immediately gave up another goal to Michael Ryder. Boston, which set a finals record with four goals in 4:14, took a 4-0 lead into the second period.
