CLEVELAND (AP) - Rookie Lonnie Chisenhall of the Cleveland Indians left a game against Toronto after being hit in the right side of his face by a pitch from Blue Jays right-hander Carlos Villanueva.

An 0-1 pitch appeared to hit Chisenhall near the ear flap on his protective batting helmet with two outs and none on in the second inning. The team later announced the injury as a facial bruise.

Chisenhall, the Indians’ No. 1 draft pick in 2008, missed time earlier this year at Triple-A Columbus with a concussion, sustained while sliding.

The third baseman went to his knees and was immediately attended to. He got to his feet and walked to the dugout, holding a towel to his nose and cheek area.

Chisenhall hit his first career homer Wednesday night in a 5-3 win over the New York Yankees.
