Instead of starting tonight’s game for the Washington Nationals, Jason Marquis will pack his bags. A trade to send the right-hander to the Arizona Diamondbacks has been agreed upon. The deal was first reported by FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi.

The Nationals obtained Zach Walters, a shortstop at Single-A South Bend, ESPN’s Jim Bowden reported.

Marquis is in the final season of a two-year, $15 million contract and is a free agent after the season. He’s anchored the Nationals’ rotation this season, going 8-5 with a 3.95 ERA over 120 2/3 innings.

Walters, a ninth-round pick by the Diamondbacks, is hitting .302 with a .377 on-base percentage and nine home runs. He’s not ranked among the organization’s top-10 prospects by Baseball America.

This is the Nationals’ third trade of the week, after dealing Jerry Hairston to the Brewers and acquiring Jonny Gomes from the Reds.
