Watney finishes strong to take AT&T National
NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — Nick Watney has won for the second time this year on the PGA Tour. He made big par putts early and enough birdies to pull away for a two-shot victory in the AT&T National.
Watney, who won a World Golf Championship at Doral in March, closed with a 4-under 66 on Sunday. He goes to No. 10 in the world and leads the FedEx Cup standings and PGA Tour money list for the first time.
K.J. Choi made a charge on the back nine and caught Watney with a 35-foot birdie putt on the 14th. But on the next hole, Choi made double bogey from a terrible spot in a bunker. Rickie Fowler, who shared the lead with Watney, shot 74 and finished nine shots behind.

Marta leads Brazil women to World Cup quarterfinals
AUGSBURG, Germany — Marta made the World Cup tournament her own for a day, scoring two goals and assisting on another to lead Brazil into the quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Norway on Sunday.
The biggest star of the women’s game brought samba heat to the rain-swept, 55-degree Wolfsburg stadium with stunning moves, speed, vision, finishing and even some rough play. The win puts the Brazilians alongside the United States as the biggest favorites for the title.
Brazil’s performance took attention away from a huge refereeing blunder in the other Group D game, during which Equatorial Guinea defender Bruna carried the ball in her hands for a couple of seconds in front of her own goal without being penalized. It didn’t hurt Australia, which beat the African rookies 3-2.
Venezuela holds Brazil to surprising Copa draw
LA PLATA, Argentina — Brazil was held to a 0-0 draw by Venezuela in the Copa America on Sunday, making a similar lacklucker start as host nation and co-favorite Argentina two days earlier.
Venezuela, usually regarded as the weakest team in the South American confederation, packed the midfield in the Group B match to snuff out Brazil. The five-time World Cup winners seldom played like an organized team, relying on the individual talents of stars Neymar and Robinho.

DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers have fired pitching coach Rick Knapp. The relatively surprising move was made after Detroit beat the San Francisco Giants 6-3 Sunday.
