ATHENS, GREECE (AP) - Organizers of Greece’s topflight soccer league have relegated clubs Kavala and Volos and banned their chairmen for life after a match-fixing scandal that has prompted Greece to seek emergency assistance from UEFA.
In the decision announced early Thursday, the clubs were relegated to the second division and each fined $433,400.
Both clubs argued that the decision is invalid, and would fight to remain in the 16-team Superleague. They argued that the club officials accused of match-fixing have not yet gone to trial.
