’The Killing’ to reveal murderer next season
Fans of “The Killing” will find out who killed Rosie Larsen next season, a promise that came from AMC’s head of original programming Joel Stillerman, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The series, starring Billy Campbell and Mireille Enos, hooked viewers into a moody mystery surrounding the death of teenager Rosie Larsen, with suspicion falling on a slick politician (Mr. Campbell) and Rosie’s parents (Michelle Forbes and Brent Sexton). The show’s promotional tagline was: “Who killed Rosie Larsen?” Viewers were up in arms when the final episode ended on a rather ambiguous note.
“For everybody who was frustrated, we hear you,” said Mr. Stillerman, addressing reporters gathered at the Beverly Hilton for the semiannual Television Critics Association press tour.
“We would have taken a different approach to managing the expectations about what was going to happen,” he said. “It was never intentionally meant to mislead anybody. Our goal was to create a brilliant piece of character-based storytelling and to try to do something [different].
“I can say definitively,” he added, “you will find out who killed Rosie Larsen in season two.”
Chris Brown, Lil Wayne slated for MTV awards show
Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are returning to the MTV Video Music Awards stage, while Adele will make her first appearance, the Associated Press reports.
The trio are the first performers announced for the Aug. 28 ceremony in Los Angeles, at the Nokia Theatre. The announcement was made Thursday.
Mr. Brown’s star, once tarnished because of his attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna, is shining bright this year, and MTV has taken note.
“He is having a moment with multiple hits this year, and he always delivers on the VMA stage,” said Amy Doyle, executive vice president of music and talent at MTV, on Wednesday.
Adele, who is nominated for seven VMAs, is also scheduled to perform. Only Katy Perry has more VMA nods, with nine; Adele is tied with Kanye West with her seven.
Miss Doyle said a tribute to Amy Winehouse, who was found dead on Saturday, is a possibility.
“We don’t know yet, but certainly she is top of mind, in our thoughts and in our hearts,” she said.
’Boardwalk Empire’ actress admits guilt in scuffle
Actress Paz de la Huerta admitted Thursday that she harassed a reality-TV figure in a confrontation that authorities said was laced with ill will about their respective claims to fame.
“I’m extremely glad this is over,” the “Boardwalk Empire” actress said after acknowledging in court that she threatened to hit Samantha Swetra in March at a bar at a chic Manhattan hotel.
According to the Associated Press, Miss De la Huerta pleaded guilty to harassment, a violation that is akin to a traffic ticket. Her plea deal calls for a day of community service and 12 weeks of alcohol counseling.
While the criminal case is ending, Miss de la Huerta still faces a lawsuit from Miss Swetra, a fashion buyer who appeared on the MTV reality series “The City.”
Miss De la Huerta, who on Thursday declined to discuss the encounter, was accused of punching Miss Swetra in the face, giving her a bloody nose, and tossing a glass that left cuts in Miss Swetra’s leg at about 4 a.m. March 20 at the Standard Hotel.
Video backs claim against ’Dog the Bounty Hunter’
Surveillance videos in the Grand Junction, Colo., lobby of the sheriff’s department show people having coughing fits after a pepper-sprayed fugitive was delivered by Duane “Dog” Chapman.
According to the Associated Press, the videos back up claims by the Mesa County sheriff that the star of the A&E show “Dog the Bounty Hunter” excessively pepper-sprayed the fugitive during a scuffle July 20 and then took him in without decontaminating him.
Mr. Chapman and his wife said they didn’t understand why the sheriff was upset because the suspect, Andrew Distel, was cleaned and fed. Mr. Distel was wanted on warrants for failure to appear in two felony cases involving possession of methamphetamine.
