George Lopez: ’I will move to Canada’ if Palin wins
“The Smurfs” star George Lopez is threatening to flee the country should former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin win the 2012 presidential election.
In a recent interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan, Mr. Lopez said he would retreat to Canada if Mrs. Palin takes over the Oval Office.
“If Sarah Palin becomes president at any point, I would say ’allegedly,’ I will move to Canada,” Mr. Lopez told the British talk show host. “I will go farther north. I’ve been south, but I will go farther north. I will leave the United States of America.”
When Mr. Morgan asked Mr. Lopez to expand on this “drastic” decision, the “Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2” actor explained he wants people in power to be politically experienced.
“I like my politicians to actually have a political background, to know politics,” Mr. Lopez said of the former vice presidential candidate and governor.
Mr. Lopez was at a loss when asked about Mrs. Palin’s appeal.
“Is it that maverickness? Is it that homespun kind of Andy Griffith, wink-your-eye, shake-the-imaginary-gun thing. Maybe?” Mr. Lopez said. “Is it just that we’ve become a culture of personality? Do we elect somebody by their smile? Instead of by their content? It’s a little bit of all of that.”
Earlier this summer, Mrs. Palin launched a One Nation bus tour, fueling speculation that she’ll seek the presidency in 2012.
Mr. Lopez’s newest project, “The Smurfs,” reaches theaters Friday.
Jesse James, fiancee call off the wedding
Everybody saw it coming.
Jesse James, who famously cheated on his Academy Award-winning ex-wife, Sandra Bullock, last year, has ended his engagement to tattoo artist Kat Von D.
“I am no longer with Jesse, and out of respect for him, his family and myself, thats all the info I’d like to share. Thanks for respecting that,” Miss Von D tweeted late Monday evening.
Mr. James said the long-distance relationship took a toll on the engagement, as Miss Von D shoots her TLC reality show “LA Ink” in California, while Mr. James lives in Texas with his children.
“I’m so sad because I really love her,” Mr. James told People magazine. “The distance between us was just too much.”
The “American Outlaw” author, who got engaged to Miss Von D six months ago, made headlines in early 2010 for reportedly sleeping with tattoo model Michelle “Bombshell” McGee for nearly a year while married to Miss Bullock. Although Mr. James claimed he was never fully invested in his marriage to the “Blind Side” actress, he told ABC earlier this year that he was certain he wouldn’t be unfaithful to Miss Von D.
Last month, he blasted rumors that his engagement to Miss Von D had ended.
“Everything is on track,” Mr. James told People magazine. “I am absolutely more in love today than I was a year ago. She’s the one for me.”
Earlier this year, Mr. James said he was looking forward to spending his life with Miss Von D, adding that scandal-heavy 2010 was actually the greatest year of his life.
“Two thousand ten was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend,” Mr. James said. “I have never met anyone so kind and loving and committed to making the world a better place every day. My love for her is beyond description.”
Study: Women’s cancer risk increases with height
Things sure aren’t looking up for tall women, who may struggle to find tall guys to date and can feel self-conscious in high heels.
Adding insult to injury, now a study says taller women have an increased risk of developing cancer.
According to new research from the British medical journal the Lancet, the taller a woman is, the greater her chance of a diagnosis with 10 types of cancer.
Although the reason for the connection between height and cancer is a mystery, cancer researcher Dr. Michael Barry said in a press release that the length of the study and the number of patients sampled seems to make the discoveries worthy of further attention.
“When we hear studies like these, we may certainly feel confused,” Dr. Barry said in the release, adding that people have no power over their height.
While height may fuel cancer risk, there are plenty of other ways women can fall victim to the deadly illness.
“In reality, no single occurrence, behavior or trait causes cancer, but cancer is a very complicated disease and there are many things that might contribute to it,” Dr. Barry said.
“Besides environmental factors, genetics, behaviors and now height, there are things we can do emotionally and mentally to lower our cancer risk,” he said.
Although the study didn’t investigate why height might increase the risk of cancer, researchers theorize that because taller bodies contain more cells, they simply may be more likely to undergo problematic cell mutations.
Researchers followed 1.3 million middle-aged females in the United Kingdom for several years, and concluded that the risk of cancer shot up by about 16 percent with every 4 inches of added height. Height-related increases in risk were greatest for the following cancers: breast, malignant melanoma, colon, endometrial, kidney, central nervous system, non-Hodgkins lymphoma and leukemia.
