Fox News correspondent embraces yoga
Yoga isn’t just for suburban housewives, Californians or fit 20-somethings. Fox News national correspondent Catherine Herridge admits to using the trendy practice as a way to calm down.
Ms. Herridge, whose new book “The Next Wave: On the Hunt for Al Qaeda’s American Recruits” details the threats from al Qaeda, recently told liberal publication Politico that she turned to Bikram Yoga when the terrifying nature of her reporting became too stressful.
“The kind of reporting I do is pretty serious reporting. … In the last year, I wrote a book and I had six months to write it and, so, I wrote it every night for like an hour, which took a lot of discipline, but what it did - you can imagine being on the computer all day and then on your phone and then at night typing away,” Ms. Herridge told the publication.
A longtime devotee of Bikram yoga, Ms. Herridge said the steamy 90-minute classes, which are conducted in 100-degree rooms, helped feed her tranquility and diminished her health and body issues.
“I started having real problems with my upper back, so I really started coming [to yoga class] more because I felt it really loosened me up and it was a good discipline to kind of let go and everything because you can’t check your BlackBerry constantly when you’re in here,” she said.
The homeland security reporter said D.C. residents could gain something positive from attending a yoga session.
“I think it would just relax people a little bit more,” Ms. Herridge said. “It’s the great equalizer: You come here, and you’re real stripped down, you’re sweating.”
Lindsay Lohan: ’I can’t afford’ court-ordered therapy
She’s made the cover of dozens of magazines, but train-wreck actress Lindsay Lohan says she doesn’t have the funds for counseling.
According to People magazine, LiLo’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, told a judge last week that the 25-year-old natural redhead hasn’t been able to continue her court-ordered psychological treatment due to “financial issues.”
Judge Stephanie Sautner didn’t have any sympathy for the troubled A-lister, who made a trip to the courtroom for a standard progress report.
“If she doesn’t have the means [to pay for the required psychological services], she’s got to find someone to help her out,” Judge Sautner said at the hearing.
Considering one of Miss Lohan’s recent tweets, it’s no surprise that she has claimed money problems. Last month, the “Georgia Rule” star published a sponsored tweet about her concerns with skyrocketing food and gas prices.
“Have you guys seen food and gas prices lately? U.S. $ will soon be worthless if the Fed keeps printing money!” she tweeted.
LiLo had spent a little more than a month in house arrest at her Southern California town house for pleading no contest to misdemeanor jewelry theft.
TLC to air reality series on American Muslim families
Former CBS anchor Katie Couric, who said last year that the U.S. needs “a Muslim version of ’The Cosby Show,’” can breathe a sigh of relief. TLC announced Thursday that it’s working on a reality television program about American Muslim families.
“All-American Muslim,” which will debut this fall, tells the stories of five Muslim families who live in or near Dearborn, Mich. The show aims to expose “very distinct lives that oftentimes challenge the Muslim stereotype,” said TLC General Manager Amy Winter in a press release, adding that the series is also about “inviting viewers into a world they might not otherwise experience.”
According to CNN, the show will follow two close sisters, one of whom wears a traditional Islamic headscarf and the other who has tattoos and piercings and has just tied the knot with an Irish Catholic lad who is converting to Islam.
“Through these families and their diverse experiences, we will explore how they blend their values and traditions with everyday life in America,” Ms. Winter said in the Thursday release.
Toward the end of 2010, Ms. Couric expressed concern about bigotry toward Muslims and said Americans should be able to watch a Muslim version of “The Cosby Show” to combat stereotypes about Islam.
“The bigotry expressed against Muslims in this country has been one of the most disturbing stories to surface,” she said on her CBSNews.com Web show.
