A passerby was being commended Saturday for performing CPR on a bicyclist in Rock Creek Park in the District.

U.S. Park Police say a female bicyclist suffered a “cardiac event” in the park Saturday morning.

Police initially said they thought the incident was likely heat-related, but a spokesman later said it was not.

A passerby started CPR, and the bicyclist was taken to a hospital and was breathing on her own.

Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser said the passerby’s intervention helped improve the bicyclist’s prognosis. He said the person’s actions are to be commended.
